PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT:
1984-2000 Mayfield City, Schools, Cleveland, Ohio
Assistant Superintendent
Recruited, selected and oriented 600+ staff. Negotiated and administered
all labor contracts, including hearing grievances, preparing cases with
legal counsel and testifying in arbitrations and lawsuits. Provided
administrative staff development on evaluation, employee discipline, and
legal issues. Prepared the personnel budget that was 81% of the General Fund.
Served as compliance officer for EEO, Title IX, OSHA, and ADA. Provided
support to and substitution for the Superintendent in overall district administration.
Interim Superintendent 1997-98
Led the district through thirteen months which included orienting two new Board
members, passing a $7 million bond issue to build and renovate science labs and
technology throughout the district, and settling negotiations with three bargaining
units while avoiding a threatened work stoppage. Provided the stability and
consistency that enabled the district to improve community members in a quality
movement within the schools.
Prior Employment
Field Experience Supervisor-Personnel Administrator, South-Western City Schools,
Grove City, Ohio and Adjunct Professor, College of Education, The Ohio State University
Negotiated a contract between South-Western City Schools and The Ohio State
University College of Education for a cooperative, field-based pre-service teacher
education program that placed over 150 pre-service teachers in classrooms each year.
Other employment included positions as a Counselor and Teacher.
